First Day of School

Here are the girls on their first day of school. Nora now has to ride the bus to her 6th grade school, Garfield Elementary. All the 6th graders on the west side of Mankato go to this school for just one year. Next year she will go to middle school for 7th and 8th. We didn't get a picture of the girls together this year since Nora has to leave almost a half hour earlier.

Alice in Wonderland

The girls were both in a production of Alice in Wonderland;
Nora as Tweedle Dee and...
Klara as Shrinking Violet.

Here along with a daffy-dil and a pansy

Above are the Cheshire Cat, Tweedle Dum, Tweedle Dee, and Tweedle Dummer,
the March Hare, the Caterpillar, and Alice just off the picture.

Enjoy the show!

Alice meets the caterpillar and the flowers.

Alice meets Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee (and Tweedle Dummer in this version).

The Trial

Girls on the Run 5K in April

Nora's team all decided to wear mustaches for the race.
"I've got a side ache!"
Klara running with one of Nora's coaches and a teammate.
Heading down the home stretch! Klara finished in 34 minutes.
Nora and Rick bringing it home a bit later after a tough run.

The Oregon Trail

Nora's class studied the migration west this spring and each pupil made a covered wagon and was allowed to bring props to complete the project. Her mini Kirsten doll was the pioneer woman, the corn-husk doll she made on a field trip to Gibb's Farm was the driver, and Dawn and Rob just happened to have a pair of wooden horses the right size to pull this group all the way to Oregon.

The Lybeck-Family Actors

Nora plays the part of the wall of thorns in Sleeping Beauty. She wasn't too thrilled with the only inanimate part in the play, but she did get some laughs.

"Thorns as sharp as needle's bite,
a wall too strong for all your might,
so try me, Prince, and you'll agree,
the battle only goes to me!"
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Klara played one of the Indians in Peter Pan, the Cleveland Indians, that is. They help Tiger Lily track down Captain Hook for the big showdown, a game of baseball. Of course, the cheating scoundrel wins, but in the end, the Indians help Pan save the lost girls and Hook falls prey to the Croc.
"The Babe"
(Note the bonnet instead of the baseball cap, and the pacifier around the neck.)

4th of July

Color guard at the neighborhood parade.

This year's "float" wasn't as long or tall as some.

Klara was this year's workhorse while Nora collected the swag.

Is "I want you to give me candy!" patriotic?

Our 4th of July dessert was heart waffles
with blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries,
and bit of unorthodox spray-can whipped cream.

Mother's Day

Here's Klara in her new China dress and shoes purchased recently in Vancouver's China Town, where Rick gave a presentation at the AERA (American Educational Research Association) conference there.

Nora has been an acolyte for three or four Sundays

Nora's school had a 60's, 70's, & 80's day, so she kind of went for the late 70's-early 80's with a fashion-punk look.
